Founders Picks: Four of Murray's favorite blends

Founders Picks: Four of Murray's favorite blends

It would be easy - and maybe a little boring - to say that I love all of our blends equally. But when I look back, each one holds a particular place in my heart for very different reasons.

Passing Clouds: My first child

Passing Clouds is like my first child. I love it dearly. Not just for nostalgic purposes (I named it after this wonderful nightclub I used to go to regularly in London), but as it remains our gold standard. It is incredibly hard to blend, having a tiny sweet spot to aim for, where all the components suddenly align to create something more than the sum of its parts. Such a satisfying moment as a maker.

Koji Rice Series: Two experimental techniques

Both Koji Rice Series (1 & 2) are also included. I first discovered the magic of koji during my time as a distiller at Empirical, where I learned how powerful it could be in creating complex, layered flavors. I was so impatient to start using it at MURI, and I think these two expressions are absolutely unique in their profiles. There is nothing else like these around anywhere.

Four Horsemen: A memorable collaboration

Another milestone was our collaboration with The Four Horsemen restaurant in New York, it was a special process for me. I visited the restaurant with their beverage director Justin Chearno - a legend of the natural wine community - who had become such a supporter of what we were doing. It was a joy to develop this with him - his refined palate helped turn this into such a rounded, versatile, classy sip.

Every blend tells its own story. Some are born from nostalgia, others from impatience to experiment, and some from collaboration with inspiring people. It's never just about what's in the glass but the journey it took to make each blend is what makes it special.
