MURI x The Four Horsemen
Introducing our new collaboration with the renowned Four Horsemen restaurant in Brooklyn, New York.
Owned by James Murphy from the band LCD Soundsystem, the 1* restaurant has been a big supporter of MURI since we started. It's synonymous with having one of the best wine lists in America. With a beverage programme driven by one of the industry legends - Beverage Director Justin Chearno - the restaurant won the James Beard award for Best Wine Programme in 2022 and is a must-visit for any wine lover in the area.
In November 2023, Murray Paterson (founder of MURI) and Justin Chearno (beverage director at The Four Horsemen) met at the restaurant to see if there was something cool that they could produce together. Guests at the restaurant are famously spoiled by the epic wine card but Justin wanted those not drinking to feel the same sense of occasion. It was, he said, important that the bottle was more 'wine-adjacent' than our typical blends as 4H was after all a wine bar, but also that the drink could serve as versatile pairing for the amazing dishes coming out of the kitchen.

Justin Chearno passed away suddenly in August, 2024, leaving all of the wine and hospitality community completely devastated. The final blend bottles were apparently delivered to the restaurant the day after he passed. How the folks at The Four Horsemen managed to deal with that, we can't imagine. We have wondered what to do since then, as without Justin's guidance this project would never have started. We hope that the blend will add its little bit to Justin's huge legacy. It's warm, it's innovative, and it's inclusive. We all loved it, and we hope you will too.

The Blend
A silky still red made from Stevnsbær sour cherry wine, ice-clarified tomato water, lacto-fermented beetroot, bayleaf and green peppercorn water kefir.
Tasting notes
Ripe red fruit to the fore. With balanced acidity and a luxurious texture, the blend is given intricate savouriness from the salty beetroot and has a lightly spicy finish.
Pairing
Pair with duck, root vegetables, or ideally the delicious toulouse sausage with mashed potatoes and prunes that is on the menu at the Four Horsemen from time to time.
Ingredients
Sour cherry juice, water, red currant juice, tomato water, beetroot, sugar, green peppercorn*, bay leaf, salt, yeast.
